Iredell County 4-H Needs You!

Volunteers are the key to success in the Iredell County 4-H program. Whether you’re interested in starting a club and becoming a club leader or just have a few hours to invest in upcoming 4-H programs, we have challenging and fun jobs for adults and teens who want to make a difference.

4‑H Empowers Youth with the Skills to Lead for a Lifetime

In 4‑H, we believe in the power of young people. We see that every child has valuable strengths and real influence to improve the world around us. Through non-formal, research-based, and hands-on educational activities, 4-H participants gain knowledge and life skills enabling them to become positive, productive, capable, and compassionate members of their communities. 4-H provides opportunities for youth ages 5-18 years old.

Currently Seeking Volunteers for the Following Volunteer Positions

  • Mooresville Area 4-H Club Leader
  • Horse Club Leader
  • Showstoppers (livestock) 4-H Club Project Leaders (dairy, swine, beef, goats, skill-a-thon, etc.)
  • Sewing Club Leader
  • Teen Club Leader (club oriented for teens)
  • Cloverbud Club Leader (club oriented for youth ages 5-7)
  • Community Service Club Leader
  • Coaches for Trouble Shooters 4-H Club (shooting sports)

Mooresville Area Club Leader 

  • Descriptions: Families in the Mooresville area are looking for an adult volunteer who has interest in teaching and leading youth in a 4-H Club. The club could be a general interest club (learning something new each month) or could be a club that focuses on a specific program area (STEM, Ag, Healthy Living, Citizenship, etc.) The choice would be up to the volunteer
  • Time Commitment: The position is a one-year commitment. The leader should expect to volunteer an average of three to five hours per month.
  • Qualifications: Club Leaders and supporting volunteers must be cleared volunteers (endorsed by NC 4-H’s background check process) OR work toward this status after being selected. They must enjoy working with youth and be appropriate role models. Knowledge of hand sewing and sewing machines is necessary for this position.

Horse Club Leader 

  • Descriptions: Club Leaders provide the necessary organization and structure for 4-H members to reach their full potential and grow into future citizens and leaders. The  main three categories of club leader responsibilities are record keeping, club communication and leadership. Because this would be a new club, there is a lot of flexibility for interested volunteers and how the club might be structured however, this club would focus solely on equine.
  • Time Commitment:The position is a one-year commitment. The leader should expect to volunteer an average of three to five hours per month.
  • Qualifications: Club Leaders and supporting volunteers must be cleared volunteers (endorsed by NC 4-H’s background check process) OR work toward this status after being selected. They must enjoy working with youth and be appropriate role models. Knowledge of hand sewing and sewing machines is necessary for this position.

Showstoppers 4-H Club Project Leaders 

  • Descriptions: The Showstoppers 4-H Club is looking for community members who have a passion for livestock and working with youth to assist with the club in the role of Project Leaders. Project Leaders would choose a project area such as beef, swine, dairy, goats, etc. and work with a group of youth to compete in 4-H events centered on that topic (skill-a-thon, quiz bowls, judging), lead a hands-on project raising an animal, or just simply teaching them all that you know about the topic and have them fill out a 4-H Project Record Book.
  • Time Commitment: Time commitment is negotiable. Ideally, this position is a minimum of a calendar year commitment. Project Leaders will spend two to five hours per month planning and working with youth on the project.
  • Qualifications: Club Leaders and supporting volunteers must be cleared volunteers (endorsed by NC 4-H’s background check process) OR work toward this status after being selected. They must enjoy working with youth and be appropriate role models. Knowledge of livestock is necessary for this position.

Shooting Sports Instructors

  • Descriptions: Trouble Shooters 4-H Club (shooting sports) is seeking coaches to help facilitate shooting ranges during club practices and assist at tournaments. All coaches must be trained through the NC 4-H Shooting Sports and become certified instructors.
  • Time Commitment:The position is a two-year commitment. The coach should expect to volunteer an average of three to five hours per month.
  • Qualifications: Club Leaders and supporting volunteers must be cleared volunteers (endorsed by NC 4-H’s background check process) OR work toward this status after being selected. They must enjoy working with youth and be appropriate role models. Attending the Shooting Sports Instructor Training is required.

Sewing Club Leader

  • Descriptions: Club Leaders provide the necessary organization and structure for 4-H members to reach their full potential and grow into future citizens and leaders. The  main three categories of club leader responsibilities are record keeping, club communication and leadership. Because this would be a new club, there is a lot of flexibility for interested volunteers and how the club might be structured.
  • Time Commitment:The position is a one-year commitment. The leader should expect to volunteer an average of three to five hours per month.
  • Qualifications: Club Leaders and supporting volunteers must be cleared volunteers (endorsed by NC 4-H’s background check process) OR work toward this status after being selected. Teen Club Leader

Community Service Club Leader
