The lessons in the unit feature dramatic roleplay, math, science, social studies, and literacy activities as well as
      • Coloring pages to go with each lesson

      • A shared-reading book about milk safety
      • Numerous suggestions for multimedia learning and extension activities
  • Winged Wonders- K-3rd Grade
    • In this curriculum, youth will observe the wonders of the natural world unfolding in front of them by raising painted lady butterflies from larva through adulthood. Youth will experience the mystery of the butterfly life cycle while engaging in hands-on activities that explore concepts of insect structures and functions, compare insect behaviors and life cycles, and demonstrate the role everyone can play in environmental stewardship.
  • The Busy World of Bees- 1st Grade
    • This curriculum is crafted to engage youth in celebrating bees and their pollinator allies and build an understanding of the benefits that bees and other pollinators provide to humans. In a series of seven lessons, youth will discover that the bee is one of nature’s wonders. Youth will learn that native bees and the European honey bee, help produce delicious and healthy food that humans have been eating for millennia. From the crunch of a fresh apple to the dribble of watermelon juice, nearly one out of every three bites we eat are dependent on bee pollination.
  • Embryology Hatching Project- 2nd Grade
    • The 4-H Embryology Project is a wonderful opportunity for young people to begin learning the science of life. Incubators, eggs, brooder boxes, heat pads, and more are supplied to each classroom to utilize during the 3 week project at no charge. During the project, each classroom receives 10 eggs (donated by Mountaire) to incubate and hatch. Youth take pride in taking care of the eggs and eventually the chicks all while learning about life cycles and other skills such as responsibility. We hold 3 sessions during the school year, 1 in the Fall and 2 in the Spring. This is a highly requested program so we do take pre-registration for each session. Information is sent out to all schools and 2nd grade teachers at the beginning of the school year to register.
  • Health Rocks!- 4th-8th Grade
    • Health Rocks! applies 4‑H’s successful Positive Youth Development model with life skill development and decision-making philosophy to the challenge of reducing tobacco, alcohol, e-cigarette/vaping, and drug use. Through the power of youth/adult partnerships, Health Rocks! instills in youth participants invaluable confidence and communication skills necessary to make responsible decisions and develop the internal strength to resist risky behaviors.
  • I Am An Ecosystem- 5th Grade
    • In this unit, youth will confront some of the myths and facts surrounding microbes in general and Salmonella in particular. Youth will examine where microbes grow in the environment and under what conditions. They will investigate the roles that microbes play in a healthy ecosystem as well as the roles that microbes play in our own bodies. Youth will also examine the negative effects of microbes as they investigate a disease outbreak. Finally, youth will apply their knowledge by designing technologies to help keep people safe from dangerous, food-borne microbes in our world.
  • Real Money. Real World. 7th-10th Grade
    • Real Money. Real World. (RMRW) is a youth-focused financial literacy program from Ohio State University Extension. Real Money. • Color Me Healthy – Kindergarten

A nutrition and physical activity program for children ages four and five. It is designed to stimulate all the senses of young children: touch, smell, sight, sound, and of course, taste. It uses color, music, and exploration of the senses to teach children that healthy eating and physical activity are fun.

    • Steps to Health – 2nd Grade

Consists of 9 sessions that are designed to educate and inspire North Carolina children to eat smart. Hands-on activities, games, and physical activity are incorporated into each lesson. Each 30-45 minute lesson includes a taste test of either a snack that the student can make after school or a healthy meal that parents can make for dinner.

Steps to Health 4th Grade seeks to inspire students to plant, grow, and try a variety of vegetables in a school garden setting while learning about nutrition and physical activity.
