Hay Bale Decorating Contest

Entries are due at this link by November 23, 2020, at noon.

Purpose

  • Fun Family Time
  • Promoting 4-H

Who Can Participate

Open to all 4-H’ers and their Families.

Categories of Competition

Due to the COVID-19 and our 4-H restrictions, entries must be constructed by individuals or families.

One entry per individual/or Family:

  • Individual CloverBud 5-7 (no competition)
  • Individual 8-13
  • Individual 14-18
  • Family – must be members of the same family

Hay Bale Theme

Bales should be designed around promoting NC 4-H.

Suggested Ideas include but not limited to:

  • Head, Heart, Hands, Health
  • Projects: STEM, Service, Outdoor Living, NC Culinary, Healthy Living
  • 4-H Grows Here
  • 4-H Fall Harvest
  • NC Regions: Piedmont, Coastal Plains, Mountain

Guidelines for Participation

  • Rectangular hale bales should be used.
  • Please limit your decoration to two (2) – eight (8) bales.
  • Each entry must have a 4-H slogan that communicates the 4-H theme that has been chosen.
  • Entry must have the official 4-H clover or the words 4-H displayed somewhere on it.
  • Entries will be judged on 4-H message, eye appeal, use of materials, and creativity.
  • The bales should be decorated with a good clean wholesome nature. No vulgar or suggestive decorations will be allowed.
  • Decorations should be weather and wind-proof.
  • NO Commercial or Political party signs of ANY KIND are allowed.
  • A county can submit as many entries as you want.
  • 4-H members must be registered in 4HOnline.
  • The entry must be displayed. Location may vary depending on your preference and approvals:
    • Extension office, home, other county buildings, library, school just to name a few. Just be sure to get permission if you are using a
      county building etc.
    • Only one family member/individual at a time can decorate if you are using a central location due to our 4-H restrictions at this time.

[DEADLINE PASSED] 4-H Showcase of Talent

4-H Entertains is not your typical competition activity. The acts are selected for skill, content, entertainment value and to create a well-rounded show.

Objectives

  • To provide an opportunity for 4-H’ers to demonstrate their creativity through the performing arts.
  • To develop poise and self-confidence before a group of their peers.
  • To provide an avenue through which local and state 4-H programs may broaden the 4-H image and acquaint the public with the creative skills possessed by 4-H members.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Participants should be 8 as of January 1 of the current year and not have had their 19 birthday as of Jan. 1.
  • They must be currently enrolled in the 4-H program and approved in 4HOnline.
  • 4-H members who have participated in previous County, District, and State 4-H talent programs MAY participate again.

General Guidelines for 2020

  • Talent acts may be presented by an individual or siblings. Groups who are not family members will not be eligible this year due to our COVID-19 state restrictions on 4-H programming.
  • Talent acts selected should appeal to youth audiences.
  • Talent acts may be drawn from dance, dramatic, variety, instrumental, and vocal arts.
  • Each county may select a maximum of four acts to participate
  • Each act should be a maximum of five (5) minutes.
  • Participants should consider the following items when selecting and presenting a talent act: audience appeal, projection, appropriate dress or costume, poise, staging-position and/or movement on stage, skills in areas of presentation (talent)
  • Music should be in good taste and appropriate for all audiences, no vulgar language will be accepted in any lyrics
  • Animal acts and use of fire are NOT allowed.
  • Digital music must be of good quality and if at all possible, must meet copyright steaming requirements. So please select your “music” carefully. We are trying to work through the streaming issues.

Video Requirements

  • Videos can not be bigger than 10GB.
  • Videos must be .mp4 file format or .mov as these are universal and we should be able to open them easily. We do not want links to a youtube channel or anything else. Videos will be uploaded directly to a Google
    registration by 4-H county staff.

Talent Showcase

The plan is to host a 4-H Webinar during National 4-H Week that you can invite 4-H families, friends, donors, etc to register to celebrate our 4-H Showcase of Talent.
