Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are a major driving force behind many programs offered by the Cooperative Extension Service in Iredell county. Their outreach efforts spread extension educational programs far beyond what staff could accomplish alone. Annually, more than 780 volunteers contribute over 11,700 hours to our program.

Advisory leaders are a key component of our volunteer force. They are the way we make sure our educational programs are viable and that they address the most important educational needs of the county. In Iredell county, we rely on more than 170 county advisors to tell us the needs and issues that our programs should address. Each cooperative extension staff member works with an advisory committee to help plan, implement, and evaluate programs.

4-H & Youth Activities

There are many different ways to help support the 4-H program, regardless of whether you have children enrolled in 4-H or not. The are many opportunities to work directly with children, or work 'behind the scenes' with 4-H programs. It all depends on your interest and talents.

We welcome you to join the men and women who volunteer with Iredell County 4-H each year. It is these volunteers who allow us to make a "REAL DIFFERENCE" for local youth -- giving them something positive and meaningful to do!

Extension & Community Association

The Iredell county extension and community association is comprised of 9 clubs and over 100 members. The purpose of this organization is to promote education through programs that encourage and assist members in achieving higher standards of family living, homemaking, community service and citizenship.

Members of our ECA organization volunteer in many capacities to enhance their club, county and community. .

The Volunteer Program that helps support horticulture education in Iredell County is the Master Gardener Volunteers.

The Master Gardener Volunteer Program is a national program of trained volunteers. Individuals work in partnership with Iredell Cooperative Extension to extend information throughout the county.

Master Gardener Volunteers provide leadershp and service to their community in gardening activities.
